托克劳的海龟

 

作品 《托克劳的海龟》,作者在一根南非圆木上雕刻出托克劳流传已久的动人故事。一位怀抱婴儿的托克劳英雄正热切呼唤充满魔力的海龟和鲨鱼前来为婴儿哺乳,表达了作者希望人类能得到神的庇佑的美好愿望。

作者,瓦克劳·瑞培纳,男,1957年5月27日出生于新西兰托克劳群岛的阿托福岛的一个木工世家,祖父和父亲均为当地十分出名的造船家。1970年毕业后随父学习造船。1986年移居新西兰,并于Maria雕刻公司学习雕刻,成为一名出色的雕刻家。2001年应澳大利亚政府邀请赴澳参加雕塑作品展览。2007年回到托克劳并就职于政府直属的雕塑部门担任领导工作。2008年应中国政府邀请参加第九届中国长春国际雕塑作品邀请展暨第二届中国长春国际雕塑大会。

Te Kei Mai Tokelau

There are a turtle, a shark and a hero with two babies in his arms on the wood sculpture. The author tells us a traditional Tokelau story to express his good wish that people can get the blessing of the gods.

Vasefenua, male, was born on May 29th, 1957 in a famous ship-building family in Tokelau. Both his grandfather and his father were distinguished ship-builders. When he finished the study in 1970, he went to his father’s dockyard to learn how to build ships. In 1978, he began to build ship by himself. He got married at 24, and moved to New Zealand with his wife and three kids five years later. There, he worked in Maria Carving Wood to learn how to carve, and then became an excellent sculptor. Therefore, he was invited to Australia to design a special sculpture in 2001. In 2008, he is invited to participate in the Ninth China Changchun International Sculpture Symposium and the Second China Changchun International Sculpture Conference.
