国王

这件作品由三张脸组成,雕塑家在此塑造的是库克群岛的国王。在国民心中,国王至高无上,近乎于神。从作品中,我们能够看出,雕塑家对国王和自己国家文化的尊重。

托凯-那加尔,男, 1966年生于库克群岛。从未接受过专业训练,自学雕刻并从事雕塑研究十年,擅长木雕,做出许多生活用品,如独木舟,桨,长矛,座椅等。在其作品中,人们可以深切感受到当地浓郁的地域风情及木雕文化。代表作有:《国王》。

King

The sculpture, made up of three faces, is the image of the King in Cook Island. People on this island take the King as the supreme and almost the God. From this sculpture we could learn the respect of the island people for their king and their own culture.

Tokai Ngaiorae, male, was born in 1966 in Cook Islands. Never accepting any professional training, he studied carving all by himself for ten years and now is skillful in wood carving. He has made many excellent works working with the wood, such as making canoe, paddle, lance and chair etc. In his great works, people get to know the local customs and understand the wood carving culture very well. His representative work is King.
